Undae Vitae (Waves of Life)
Ceramic stoneware
Undae Vitae is a vessel shaped by the rhythms of inner dialogue—an embodiment of the emotional tides that accompany body dysmorphia. Its surface is carved with undulating waves, each line echoing the cyclical nature of negative thoughts as they rise, crest, and recede, only to return again. These marks are not just texture, but memory—evidence of the persistence of self-perception and the vulnerability held within the body.
Vessels are traditionally meant to hold, to contain, to preserve. In this piece, the vessel becomes a sacred container for the weight of internalized criticism, insecurity, and doubt. It is a space where those thoughts are no longer hidden or carried alone, but instead externalized—given form, surface, and presence.
Created as both a personal release and a shared offering, Undae Vitae holds the negative thoughts I have carried about my own body. By placing them into the clay, I transform them from something internal and isolating into something visible and communal. The act of making becomes an act of unburdening.
At the same time, this piece functions as a mirror—not one that reflects physical appearance, but one that invites introspection. It calls viewers back into themselves, encouraging a pause within the noise of self-critique. In that pause, there is an opportunity to soften, to breathe, and to reconnect with self-love.
Like waves, these thoughts are not permanent. They move, they shift, they pass. And within that movement lies the lifelong process of healing.
